S&W 945,legal
I have a PC 945 smith that I have been shooting at local matches. I was told by another shooter this last weekend my gun was not legal for IDPA because the magazine latch was oversized. I have not...

Please do tell what rule would be cited to DQ it? I listed the only rule I could find that related to a magazine release for all divisions. "Oversize" is only in print one time in relation to a...

Ty, You got the right rule. You are just reading it differently. I for one wouldn't like the gentleman to fail the equipment check and be DQ'd, so I brought it up.

Ok, Thanks. Thought there was more. Lets get this one clarified next go around. Where is that form to fill out?

Roger that. BTW, the button looks higher than 0.2" to me, but it is hard to tell from a picture.

When I get home tomorrow I will measure the height. I read on BE of someone who shot a nationals shoot with a 945 a few years ago. That is why I decided to try it in CDP. If its not legal I will go to...

Howdy, Whether the release is too high is academic with the over sized head. Many/most places will not accept that as legal. At a big match, you might have shot part the match before you get to the...

That's definitely an over sized magazine release. If you want to shoot it in CDP, you could probably remove the enlarged portion, then measure the remaining mag release to see if it is short enough....

Note that a lot of these criteria, enlarged magazine catch, long dust cover, heavy barrel, etc., are relative to the 1911, not to a different make of gun that may be available no other way.

This gun is not a 1911 it is about the same as a 4506. The release is not a 2 piece unit like my 1911 has. I checked with a gunsmith and we could not find another release that would work. I am trying...

Please everyone....remember the 0.2" is a length that we can not extend a release beyond. We most certainly may have releases longer than 0.2" in many IDPA legal guns. M&P is one that comes to...

SSP? Oh that changes almost every reply to this thread. Ty you are right. Good thing you are persistent. You are right, but because of this rule: 8.2.1.3.3 Magazine releases, slide stops, safety...

Sorry all. I thought the 945 was an SSP gun. I confused it with other all steel Smith and Wesson guns. Now I understand Kens position. I thought he was just being ornery. Went back and re-read Kens...

I saw the SSP and thought that maybe I misunderstood the rules. I saw on BE forum that someone shot the winter nationals in 04 with a 945. Where can someone get a ruling that you can show if a MD...

While I believe the intent of the rule is to disallow 1911's from showing up with buttons on their modified aftermarket magazine releases. Since the 945's release is not a add on part and there is no...

I measured the Mag release. It is .227 inches high. I have been told by a friend who is a gunsmith that I should be able to get a mag release from a 4506 it should be shorter. If I get under the .2...

I shoot a S&W PC 4006. It has the same magazine release button as the 945, as I have one of those as well. Prior to the Nationals last year I called headquarters and asked Robert Ray about this...

Good news I got a mag release today from a 4506 it is the same diameter and is short enough to be legal. Now if the gun will make weight I will be all set
